Transmitting signals and power in appliances is now simpler using the 125 Power Blade and Receptacle System from AMP Inc., Harrisburg, Pa. Stamped metal latches on both contacts increase retention forces while an audible locking sound verifies a secure connection to the housing. Because the power blade and receptacle reduce "float" in the housing, contact alignment is ensured, thus reducing the likelihood of snubbing or backing out.
The system is typically used as an I/O connection for motors, PCBs, washer and dryer lid switches, temperature switches, and timer devices. Over its useful life, the connection is rated 9.4 A in 18-awg applications and 12 A in 14-awg applications, although initial current ratings can be higher.
