The latest entry-level workstation from Hewlett-Packard Co., Palo Alto, Calif. (www.hp.com), the xw4100, uses the Intel Pentium 4 chip and is based on Intel's next-generation chipset, 875P. The workstation includes Intel's Performance Acceleration Technology, which reduces memory access latencies for better performance. It is also optimized for HyperThreading, so it efficiently runs several applications at once and handles processor-intensive tasks quicker. It supports Windows 2000 Professional and Red Hat Linux operating systems. Prices start at about $700.
