1965 Mustang Fastback features an all-aluminum Cammer V8 crate engine with four two-barrel Weber carburetors.

Tall, goofy-looking rear spoilers and enlarged exhaust pipes are aftermarket equipment for kids. Ford Racing Performance Parts' (FRPP) new Cammer engine is for serious aftermarket enthusiasts only. The 5.0-liter V8 crate engine is a descendant of the SVT Mustang Cobra 4.6-liter engine family. One big difference is larger 94-mm bores (compared to 90.2) with flanged cylinder liners resulting in the 5.0 liters of displacement. Other differences include forged pistons, an 11.0:1 compression ratio, ported heads, higher lift cams, and beehive-shaped valve springs.

The Cammer produces 420 horses and comes with a stock Mustang Cobra oil pan and exhaust manifolds. For easier installation, the powerplant comes with a choice of several length 5.0-liter four-valve modular wiring harness kits that cover most popular engine swap configurations. The harness kits contain a powertrain-control module as well as all electrical connectors including end terminals, a fuse box, a power-distribution box, switch connectors, and fuel-pump relays. This will set you back $14,995 and is available in the 2004 FRPP catalog. There are a couple of drawbacks though: The Cammer crate engine is not street legal and has no warranty.
