Turn any hose into a conveyor

Nov. 2, 2000
If you're looking for a low-cost, light-duty conveyor to move scrap, trim, or parts over short distances, Exair Corp., Cincinnati, Ohio, may have what you need with its new Light Duty Line Vac.

These compressed air-powered conveyors pick up lightweight materials through an intake and accelerate them through vertical or horizontal lengths of ordinary hose or tube. Conveying rates are easily controlled by regulating the compressed-air-supply pressure.

The new design has no moving parts, instead it uses a simple threaded, two-part construction featuring eight different sized inlet and outlet diameters -- from 0.75 to 6 in. -- common to most hose and tube sizes. The unit is made from either aluminum or corrosion-resistant stainless-steel that is suitable for high temperature and food service. Other applications include hopper loading, fiber filling, scrap trim removal, and part transfer.

Compressed air flows through the inlet into an annular plenum chamber, where it is injected into the throat through directed nozzles. These air jets create a vacuum at the intake which draws the material in and accelerates it through the unit at long vertical or horizontal distances.
