The sentinel that never sleeps

Nov. 17, 2005
Nighttime surveillance systems often use different components to light and record images.

So vandals can disable one and then commit mischief undetected. The Sentinel system from the Swiss company MacroSwiss (macroswiss.com), hides the camera in the lamp, making it difficult for vandals to know if there is a camera. The lamp is a thin tube with a half-mirrored plastic housing protecting an 11-W fluorescent bulb. A small Faulhaber motor turns a camera mounted inside the housing 360°. The tube comes with a stand or can be wall mounted. The company makes an identical lamp without the camera. Several of them can be used to light an area while one with a camera keeps watch. The device carries an IP65 rating, making it suitable for outdoor use.
