The Explorer CVS is a transcranial Doppler (TCD) unit that detects and monitors embolism movement through vessels. Developed by the French company Diagnostic Medical Systems (DMS), the unit features multigate, multichannel TCD scanning for a range of applications in vascular diagnosis. The unit has high-speed algorithm FFT-signal processing, as well as eight gates that let it use high-intensity transient signals. Software capabilities include a database with an archiving program, scrolling memory, simultaneous display of up to eight depths, real-time calculations and event markers, and automatic artifact removal. A monitoring helmet is fitted with a flexible axis and single-touch control. The unit can also be used to quantify vascular and intracranial stenosis, detect vasospasms and arteriovenous malformations, assess collateral pathways, and monitor real-time drug effects.
