The GLM30 linear motor from THK, Schaumburg, Ill. (thk.com), uses water cooling and a strong extruded base to exert up to 3,000 N of continuous linear force. Instantaneous peak force is rated at 4,500 N. The actuator generates little dust or noise. The motor and linear encoder are well suited for automated systems for electronics assembly, semiconductor and large LCD production, and high-speed robotics.
