Aug. 22, 2002
he Smartswitch from NKK combines an LCD cap with a switch base to let users see text or graphics and act on it.

T Depending on the amount of memory, each switch from the Scottsdale, Ariz., company can display an endless amount of information or instructions using standard industry-specific icons or text. Equipment operators, for example, could use an array of two or three Smartswitches to pore through a series of 20 different options before reaching the desired action. The switches tactile feel gives users positive feedback that they have made a choice, unlike some touch screens. Different-color LED options can be used to highlight critical operations.
