New Product: Loop-Powered Ultrasonic Level Sensor

March 6, 2008
The LPU-2428 Loop-Powered Ultrasonic Level Sensors obtain all operating power from the 4-to- 20-mA process loop.

An internal microprocessor performs volume, flow, and totalization calculations. The IP65-rated sensors are specifically designed for liquidflow- rate and volume measurement applications and provide a 1-to-25-ft (0.3-to- 7.62-m) detection range. Flow rates are determined by formulas for a variety of flumes and weirs built into the sensors. These include Parshall flumes, cut-throat flumes, California-pipe weirs, rectangular weirs, and Vnotch weirs. Output is directly proportional to the flow rate with selectable units of per second, per minute, per hour, or per day. Standard volume units include cubic feet, millions of cubic feet, gallons, cubic meters, or liters. The sensors have built-in formulas for most industry-standard tank shapes for volume measurement.

LPU-2428 sensors feature a rugged PVDF (Kynar) transducer housing and PC/PET chemical-resistant sensor housing, and use standard 2-in. NPT fittings. The sensors operate over temperatures from 40 to 140°F (40 to 60°C) and deliver 0.1-in. (2.5-mm) resolution with an accuracy of ±0.25% of the detected range. Response times range from 0.6-to-3 sec depending on the output range.

The LPU-2428 has internal temperature compensation to automatically adjust for ambient temperature changes, as well as filtering options for other variables such as waves on a liquid or tank irregularities. Readings are unaffected by the color, translucency, dielectric constant, specific gravity, or viscosity of the target. A remote keypad and display unit are used to set up internal parameters.
