Spring-set, powered-off brakes can stop a load with the power off; stop critical loads safely during power interruptions or failures; conserve energy, or hold a load with the power off.
Permanent-magnet power-off brakes use a permanent magnet to attract the armature plate and, as a result of friction between the poles and rotating armature, generate braking torque. When the coil is energized in the opposite polarity of the permanentmagnet field, the attraction between the poles and armature is reduced so the leaf springs pull the armature in contact with the hub.
