New Product: Biocompatible Plastic for Prototyping

April 24, 2008
ABS-M30i, a new biocompatible plastic, can be sterilized using either gamma radiation or ethylene-oxide (EtO) methods.

The material is for medical, food, and pharmaceutical prototyping and production applications. ABS-M30i offers mechanical-property improvements over standard ABS including tensile, impact, and flexural strength (reportedly 67% stronger). Bonding strength between layers is said to be doubled, which greatly expands the capabilities for functional testing or manufacturing production parts. The “natural” off-white plastic uses the new SR20 soluble support technology for automated supportmaterial removal. ABS-M30i parts can be built with 0.005, 0.007, 0.010, and 0.013-in. slices.
