Software assists in composite-part design

Oct. 20, 2005
Ansys 10.0 solver technology and FiberSIM 3.5 software (and higher) work together to let analysts access and verify CAD master models of parts made from composite materials.

FiberSIM in Catia V5 simulates layup of a woven composite ply for an aircraft-engine housing (upper left). Fiber orientation is analyzed and verified in Ansys (lower right).

Doing so promotes collaborative engineering, significant cost reductions, and improved part performance. The integration is reported to reduce analysis time from weeks to hours.
