Low-Power LED Backlighting

Jan. 11, 2007
A patent-pending light emitting diode (LED) backlighting technology targets hi-bright panels in outdoor signage, aircraft cockpits, and construction-site displays that need brightness levels of 800 NITS or more.

The technology works with panels ranging in size from 5 to 19 in., from almost any manufacturer. A typical 15-in. panel retrofitted with the technology at 1,000 NITS, for example, uses only 24 W, whereas cold cathode fluorescent lamps of equivalent brightness require 65 W.
