Two Dimensional to 3D Made Easy

July 7, 2005
A simple four-step program for manufacturers using 2D design systems lets them evolve to 3D design and higher levels of productivity.

The Evolve to 3D program leverages capability built into Solid Edge V17. Advances in Solid Edge let users mix and match 2D and 3D techniques in a hybrid-design environment, continuing to use their efficient 2D layout processes while making the move to 3D for complete digital mockup. Studies show engineering change orders drop by 50% or more, productivity increases up to 50%, and time to market shortens by months. The four steps in the program include protecting a company's investment in 2D designs by converting them to Solid Edge. Step 2: Turn simple 2D geometry into intelligent, 3D parts using the 2D to 3D migration wizard. Step 3: Apply hybrid 2D/3D design workflow. Step 4: Move to full 3D digital mock-up when ready and use workflows learned and the data created.
