FEA Adds Nonlinear Contact, Support For Motion Controllers, And More

Oct. 7, 2004
CosmosDesignStar V4.5 includes 3D nonlinear contact analysis, support for motion controllers from 3Dconnexion, support for the XML material library format, and CAD support for the newest versions of Solid Edge, Autodesk Inventor, SolidWorks, and Catia.

COSMOSDesignStar lets users explode individual parts of an assembly. The explode options include Move, Rotate, Enlarge, Shrink, and Collapse. The new release also features a Task Scheduler to make it easier to run up to 10 FEA studies in batch mode.

The 3D nonlinear contact analysis eliminates shortcomings caused when static studies are used to solve contact problems. For example, the software simulates the hyperelastic behavior of O-rings as they compress on contact with bearing surfaces. A thermostat mechanism can control heat, power, and heat-flux assignments for transient thermal analyses. Users can apply different initial temperatures to different components in an assembly when performing transient-thermal analyses. The software supports CadMan, SpaceBall, SpaceMouse, and SpaceTraveler from 3Dconnexion.
