The ADAM5550KW programmable automation controller combines the features of both PLCs and industrial PCs.

Programmable Automation Controller

The unit uses IEC61131-3 programming language under Windows CE 5.0 in an AMD Geode GX533 CPU to provide control-specific features including a watchdog timer, battery-backed-up RAM, and deterministic I/O. Included is a local VGA port for HMI displays, two Ethernet ports, and two USB ports. The device is said to serve multiple domains such as high-speed analog measurement, multiple programs with different cycle times, open communications functions, and enterprise-level network integration. It's specifically designed to handle distributed motion-control functions with PLCopen-compliant motion function blocks.
