Compact absolute encoder

June 2, 2005
The SKM 36 SinCos motor feedback system features the Hiperface interface.

The multiturn rotary encoder tracks absolute position over 4,096 turns and has a minimum number of components to allow miniature and subminiature motor manufacturers to shorten overall motor length. The system's gearbox design has only three stages of operation compared to the five or six of conventional multiturn gearbox units that have code disc, ball bearing, and shaft errors. The SKM 36 features Mini-Disc (MiDi) technology that includes a track radius of 2 mm, permitting full scanning of the entire code disc that compensates for such errors. The code disk is mounted in the center of the axis of rotation so high angular velocities are not limited by the code disk.
