Software simulates large molds at work

June 2, 2005
Liquid Composite Molding (LCM) simulation software provides preliminary design and refined calculations for mold optimization and final-design verification.

University of Le Havre uses PAMRTM to simulate Vacuum Assisted Resin Infusion of a ship hull. VARI simulation is now possible because the permeability variations caused by the deformation of fibrous reinforcement during resin injection are taken into account.

The product simulates resin-transfer molding (RTM), vacuum-assisted RTM (VARTM), and now vacuum-assisted resin infusion (VARI). VARI is one of the few methods that efficiently manufacture large composite parts such as windmill blades, ship decks and hulls, and large aircraft parts. Such large structures cannot be manufactured with traditional closed molds.
