Explosionproof Linear Actuators

June 2, 2005
EL Series explosionproof linear actuators rated for Class I, Div. 1, Groups B, C, and D hazardous environments use roller-screw technology that is said to outperform rival ball screws by a factor of 15 in travel life and can carry higher loads.

In conventional rotary-to-linear devices, critical mechanisms are exposed to the environment and therefore require frequent inspection, cleaning, and lubrication. In contrast, all converting components in the EL Series mount within a sealed, IP65-rated motor housing. The smooth extending rod allows the use of a bushing and seal arrangement, which expels contaminants.

EL Series give speeds to 25 ips and forces to 2,700 lb. The eight-pole brushless motors are available to run on 24 Vdc to 460 Vac with feedback configurations compatible with most resolver-based servoamplifiers. Applications include printing presses, engine test stands, fuel-distribution systems, chemical-processing plants, and paint booths.
