New Product: 12-bit magnetic rotary encoder

Jan. 24, 2008
The AS4056 12-bit magnetic rotary encoder IC detects rotational angle, vertical distance, and magnetic tilt.

It can detect vertical distances over several millimeters, offering an ideal solution for contactless, multiaxis human interface devices, such as navigational knobs. The AS5046 combines Hall elements and signal processor on one silicon chip. In addition to rotation detection mode, the AS5046 also supports the detection of magnet tilt with pushbutton functionality. It is available in a leadfree SSOP16 package. The device communicates with an external microcontroller over a two-wire serial interface. For stand-alone operation, the AS5046 has a programmable ratiometric analogue output. It operates on either 3.3 or 5.0-V supply and is specified for -40 to +125°C.
