New Product: Brushless DC Motor Starter Kit

Dec. 13, 2007
The Microsystems Starter Kit, developed to let users quickly get started with a miniature synchronous motor, contains drive electronics, adapter board, and a motor.

The kit is available for dc brushless motor Series 0206...B, 0308...B, and 1202...BS/BH. The adapter board contains an integrated oscillator for speed control. PWM frequency is 500 kHz and motor rotation direction is reversible.

The Faulhaber motor Series 0206…B has a 1.9-mm diameter, a 5.5-mm length, and weighs 0.09 gm. It gives 0.012-mNm continuous torque with speeds to 100,000 rpm. A Series 02/1 micro planetary gearhead with a 0.15-mm continuous torque rating and 0.30-mNm intermittent operation is available.

The Smoovy Series 0308…B contains a System Faulhaber skewed winding in combination with a neodymium rare-earth magnet rotor for cog-free motion. Features include a jewel bearing system, 3-mm external motor diameter, and 0.014-nMn continuous output torque to 15,000 rpm. For a complete miniature dc drive system, the motor can be combined with a gearbox and a linear actuator.

A flat brushless-dc motor, the Penny motor Series 1202…BH gives 0.12-mNm continuous torque to 60,000 rpm. The unit’s rotor is produced using photolithography for precise, synchronous operation without cogging.

All motors are driven by a Faulhaber BLD 05002 S Synchronous Drive Servo Amplifier, which is an electronics synchronous drive servoamplifier with sine form output voltage that operates with PWM at 500 kHz and has a 2.7 to 5.5-Vdc power supply.
