IDB-1394 Controller IC

Jan. 12, 2006
The MB88387 is an IDB-1394-compliant (Intelligent Transportation System Data Bus-1394) controller that connects in-vehicle audio and video from a head unit, DVD player, navigation, camera, or other devices to vehicle displays.

The IC incorporates both the 1394b PHY and Link layers in a single chip, along with the Digital Transmission Content Protection (DTCP) standard that prohibits unauthorized copying or transmission of protected AV content. The controller supports IEC61883 AV protocols for smooth audio and video stream playback.

The chip supports data-transfer rates up to 400 Mbps and operates at 3.3 V for I/O with an internal voltage of 1.8 V. The PHY layer supports two 1394b/S400 ports, and the integrated DTCP function allows encryption or decryption of two data streams at the same time. Systems networked using the MB88387 can transmit audio and video throughout the vehicle at distances up to 100 m.
