New Product: Copolymer targets aircraft interiors

Oct. 11, 2007
Lexan FST9705, a polycarbonate (PC) copolymer, is a candidate for use in aircraft interiors. It features a light base color that easily colors (including bright white).

Moldedin color can reportedly eliminate about 11 lb of paint currently used in cabins. In addition, the resin reportedly stands up better to wear than its painted plastic counterparts. And it complies with flame/smoke/toxicity specs, including OSU 55/55 heat-release performance. Lexan FST9705 resin’s processibility is similar to that of polycarbonate-type products. The resin’s high ductility makes it a candidate for parts that see rough handling and also makes poss ible thin-wall parts to further reduce weight and contribute to fuel savings.
