Motion Poducts: Six-Channel Encoder Module

Dec. 1, 2008
Each module consists of a lensed LED source and a detector IC enclosed in a small plastic package.

The AEDS-9240 produces six-channels of incremental encoding: twochannel quadrature outputs (A, B), a third channel that’s an ungated-index output (I), and three channels of integrated commutation output (U, V, W). It detects rotary position using a codewheel with an optical radius of 19 mm (0.748 in.) to get 360 or 720 cycles/ rev. The ungated-index output is a positive index pulse generated once each full rotation of the codewheel.

Each module consists of a lensed LED source and a detector IC enclosed in a small plastic package. A highly collimated light source and a photodetector array make the AEDS- 9240 extremely tolerant to mounting misalignment. Designed to fit into a circular shaped housing, the encoder has a frequency response of 150 kHz over an operating temperature range of –40 to 100°C. Operation is from a single 5-V supply with TT L-compatible outputs. The unit is RoHS compliant.
