Product Spotlight: Explosive Decompression-Resistant Seals

Aug. 18, 2009
XploR range of range of perfluoroelastomer explosive decompression-resistant advanced elastomers

The XploR range of range of perfluoroelastomer explosive decompression-resistant advanced elastomers is for oil and gas applications.

In conventional seals, gas or gas mixtures in contact with elastomer surfaces can be absorbed under pressure. When external pressure is reduced, the compressed gas rapidly expands and can lead to crack initiation within the body of the elastomer. The cracks propagate and cause voids that lead to leakage.

XploR seals are made of compounds such as HNBR, FKM, and Isolast perfluoroelastomer (FFKM) that are specifically formulated to resist this explosive decompression. The range comes in all standard international O-ring sizes and cross sections, along with custom-engineered solutions and specially designed seal profiles.
