Stand-Alone Controller Works in Four Quadrants

Sept. 24, 2009
The BDE40 controller can be used with most three-phase brushless Hall-effect motors and can work in four quadrants.

The BDE40 controller can be used with most three-phase brushless Hall-effect motors and can work in four quadrants.

The device’s four-quadrant design is for applications requiring standard forward and reverse motor control as well as closed-loop speed control for motor slowing and stopping. Applications include production conveyor-belt control, production robot trolley wheels, medical, food-mixing machines, cutting, packaging machines, and other applications having 12 or 24-V power supplies requiring powerful motors.

The controller delivers up to 360 W with 11 to 36 Vdc, 10-A nominal, and a maximum 14-A continuous current. Resistors provide protection against overcurrent, polarity inversion, and short circuiting. Performance characteristics include an absorbed current of 0.1 A, 50°C temperature rise, 20 to 40°C operating temperature, and 40 to 90°C storage temperature. Input is pull-up resistor connected to 5-V Hall-effect and output is pnp-type open collector with a 0.02-A maximum current.
