Parker Hannifin Corp.'s Electromechanical Automation Division, Rohnert Park, Calif., announces that its MPP series traction motor is being used to power an all-electric motorcycle built by Brammo Inc., Ashland, Ore. The bike was recently unveiled at the Red Bull U.S. Grand Prix at the Mazda Raceway in Laguna Seca, Calif., where a major race was held as part of the FIM e-power race series.

Designed for today's electric and hybrid vehicles, MPP motors offer lower weight and higher power than other traction motors and come in a smaller package. The motors also include an innovative winding design and internal dual-cooling implementation. This design yields up to 40% higher torque per unit size than conventionally constructed permanent magnet motors and can deliver 20 to 350 kW of power with 97% efficiency. The racing bike will debut later this month, with a street version for the commercial market planned for next year. Brammo and Parker are working through the details of a smaller MPP motor for the production version. For more information, visit parkermotion.com and brammo.com.
