SMMA-The Motor & Motion Association will offer four SMMA Motor & Motion College courses in October. The first class, The Fundamentals of Electric Motor Design, will be held October 5, prior to the SMMA 2005 Fall Technical Conference at the Sheraton Chicago Northwest Hotel in Arlington Heights, Ill.

Participants at the Electrical Insulation Conference/Electrical Manufacturing Expo at the Indiana Convention Center in Indianapolis, October 23-26 can attend Basic Motor Theory, Operation, and Application. The half-day course meets Sunday, October 23 and provides technical laypersons and non-motor engineering professionals with a basic understanding of motor operation, systems constituting a motor, and characteristics of various motor types, i.e. dc motors, electronically commutated motors, and induction motors.

Additional courses at the expo include Fundamentals of Poly Phase Induction Motor Design and Fundamentals of Universal Electric Motor Design.

Courses are open to SMMA prospective members with discounted registration for SMMA member company employees and multiple attendees from the same company. Continuing Education Units or Professional Development Units are available for each course.
