Plastic bearing specialist igus Inc., East Providence, R.I., has launched its fifth “manus” competition for plastic plain bearing applications. The contest is open to participants from around the world for the first time, with a deadline of February 28. According to company officials, the competition seeks innovative, challenging, and unusual applications using lubrication-free plastic bearings.

Entry is easy: Simply provide a brief explanation of the application to be solved, plus a description of the solution that includes details about the specific plastic bearing used and why. Entries should demonstrate how plastic bearings contributed towards technical and economical efficiency or creativity. Photos should accompany each entry.

The winner will receive 5,000 euros prize money, while second and third place will be awarded 2,500 and 1,000 euros respectively — approximately $6,690, $3,345, and $1,337. Results will be announced during Hanover Fair, to be held in Germany from April 4 to 8. For more information, visit igus.com/manus or call (401) 438-2200.
