SERCOS North America announces the availability of the SERCOS III Planning and Installation Guide. The new document is intended to support engineers and electricians during planning and installation of a SERCOS III network, in order to guarantee trouble-free operation of machines and systems. Cabling with both copper wire and optical fiber is described for both IP20 and IP65/67 protection classes. The specification is based on international standard IEC 61918 (Installation of communication networks in industrial premises), with an additional installation profile for SERCOS III, which will be standardized in IEC 61784-5.

SERCOS III uses a component-based approach: Defined cables and connectors are combined and used to connect automation devices in a machine or system. The total length of the cabling run as well as the number of transitions between cables and connectors are considered. The result is transmission lines that fulfill the requirements for SERCOS III cabling without requiring extensive planning, calculations, and measurements.

SERCOS, SErial Realtime COmmunication System, is among the leading digital interfaces for communication between controls, drives, and decentralized peripheral devices. SERCOS has been used in machine engineering for more than 20 years and is implemented in more than 2.5 million realtime nodes. For more information, visit sercos.com.
