PTDA offers positive market outlook

The Power Transmission Distributors Association's (PTDA) May trend data for distributors and manufacturers of power transmission/motion control (PT/MC) products shows a steady rise in the industry.

In May, U.S. distributors' year-to-date sales of PT/MC products increased 12.5% as compared to sales for January through May 2004. Sales decreased 2.9% over April and rose 14.9% as compared to May 2004. For May, the confidence level of U.S. distributors rose from 6.7 in April to 6.8 on a 10-point scale.

Canadian distributors' year-to-date sales of PT/MC products increased 14% as compared to sales for January through May 2004. Sales decreased 4.4% over the previous month, but rose 17.9% as compared to May 2004. For May, the confidence level of Canadian distributors remained flat at 6.8 on a 10-point scale.

In May, U.S. manufacturers' sales of PT/MC products grew 12.8% as compared to sales for January through May 2004. Sales decreased 1.6% over the previous month and increased 9.6% as compared to May 2004. Compared to April, sales decreased.

Year-to-date orders of PT/MC products from U.S. manufacturers rose 13.7% as compared to 2004. May orders decreased 1.8% over April and increased 12.2% as compared to May 2004. For May, the confidence level of U.S. manufacturers remained flat at 5.5 on a 10-point scale.

Canadian manufacturers' sales of PT/MC products increased 3.9% as compared to sales for January through May in 2004. Sales remained flat over the previous month and went up 8.9% as compared to May 2004. As compared to April, sales decreased. For May, the confidence level of Canadian manufacturers remained flat at 5.2 on a 10-point scale.
