Made from nanostructured thin film, the eTEC cooler works as a miniature, solid-state pump to cool hot spots on ICs. The device pumps as much as 400 W/cm2, as compared to less than 10 to 20 W/cm2 for typical bulk TECs. eTECs measure a few millimeters per side and are 100 to 400-micron thick.
