Helically Grooved Pins

July 12, 2007
A line of helical grooved pins is for high-shear applications where grooved pins are installed into hardened holes.

With standard pins, high peaks tend to shear off during installation, causing retention problems and field failures. The new helical grooved pins have wide, low-profiled peaks that spiral around the pin body, helping maintain its integrity when installed into a hardened hole. Helical grooves also provide low and consistent installation forces, compared to common solid pins. The pins come in three styles: Standard Series GP210 Half Length Centered Groove; Predesigned Special Series GP200 Full Length Groove; and Predesigned Special Series GP220 Half Length Offset Groove. Standard materials for the pins include low-carbon steel and 300 Series austenitic stainless steel. Standard finishes include plain oiled, zinc plated, phosphate coated, and passivated. Standard diameters are 0.625 to 0.25 in. with lengths from 0.25 to 2.25 in. Standard metric diameters are 1.5 to 6 mm with lengths from 6 to 55 mm. Other materials, finishes, diameters, and lengths are available on request.
