The Boca Bearing Company, Boynton Beach, Fla., is celebrating its 25th year in business by doling out more than $20,000 in cash and prizes as part of its international 2012 Boca Bearings Innovation Contest. Company executives cite the need to support innovators who push the limits of new technologies that will drive the future economy.

In Boca Bearing's new contest, winners will be chosen based on video submissions of their innovative, progressive, or just plain “cool” projects that employ ball, roller, or linear bearings. One finalist will be chosen by the voting public each month in 2012 to win an iPad2, and the grand prize winner will be chosen by Boca Bearing personnel to receive a grant check for $10,000. Two runner-ups will each win a 3D printer from Makerbot Industries.

Mechanical devices that require either linear or rotary motion generally also require bearings to make the motion more efficient. Any project may be submitted for entry, such as unmanned autonomous vehicles, robots, kinetic art sculptures, sustainable energy projects and other ideas.
