Joint connects pipes and rotating cylinders

Connecting stationary piping to rotating tanks can put a strain on the joint between the two.

The SX rotary joint from The Johnson Corp., Three Rivers, Mich. (joco.com), safely and reliably connects steam, water, and hot oil pipes running into rotating cylinders. Dual carbon bearings let the joint selfalign, even on cylinders that are not concentric, which extends operating life. The SX joint uses a convex seal ring and a seal diameter optimized for the fluid being carried, which reduce maintenance and also make the joint last longer. The selfsupporting SX joint is available in sizes up to 3 in. and can be used in single and dual-flow applications. It is rated up to 650°F (343°C), 550 rpm, and 300 psig (20 bar).
