Multiphysics software supports multicore processors

Oct. 25, 2007
Engineering and simulation software Comsol Multiphysics 3.4 lets users model and simulate almost any physics-based system.

The program supports multicore processors and shared-memory parallelism, so most calculations in the simulation workflow (meshing, assembly, and solving) complete in less time. A new feature lets users mesh boundary layers in fluid problems more efficiently and with greater accuracy than previously possible. New, state-of-the-art stabilization techniques work with the software’s iterative solvers, letting users solve large fluid-flow problems that have millions of degrees of freedom. And a segregated solver with an easy-to-use interface significantly reduces memory consumption in large problems such as fluid-structure interactions and wave propagation in thermally deformed structures. V 3.4 includes postprocessing tools for computing geometric properties such as area, volume, center of gravity, and moment of inertia. The program runs on Windows, Linux, Solaris, and Macintosh workstations.
