Pneumatic Seals

March 17, 2005
A new design guide helps mechanical and design engineers use pneumatic elastomeric seals

for clamping, actuation, and sealing. Presray Pneuma-Seal inflatable seals are used on doors, and as fast-action clamps and actuators in material handling, workholding, airframe fabrication, and printing machinery. The 24-page guide covers material selection, standard types, applications, typical configurations, and retention systems. It also discusses the pros and cons of extruded and molded cross sections and standards versus specials. The manual also covers selection and proper placement of air connections for seals or actuators that are cyclically inflated and deflated.
