Scanner Turns Models Into 3D Surfaces

    The LPX-1200 desktop 3D laser scanner comes with Pixform Pro reverse-modeling software.

    The scanner produces high-quality scans while the software streamlines data editing. Users might scan, for example, a mobile phone to design blister packaging or an ear-canal mold for a custom hearing aid. Features include 0.0039-in. resolution, rotary and planar scanning modes, and a 5-in.-diameter 8-in.-high-scanning volume. The device scans undercut surfaces, supports polygon to Nurb surface conversion, and has a rigid cast-aluminum frame. The software can align, merge, fill holes, decimate, remesh, and translate polygon surfaces into Nurb surfaces. Price: $21,995; for the LPX-250 alone: $9,995.
