Scenes from Detroit Maker Faire 2013

The Maker Faire found its way to the Detroit area recently. The Faire -- billed as an all-ages gathering of tech enthusiasts, crafters, educators, tinkerers, hobbyists, engineers, science clubs, authors, artists, students, and commercial exhibitors -- started in 2006 in the San Francisco Bay area and has branched out from there.

The Maker Faire found its way to the Detroit area recently. The Faire -- billed as an all-ages gathering of tech enthusiasts, crafters, educators, tinkerers, hobbyists, engineers, science clubs, authors, artists, students, and commercial exhibitors -- started in 2006 in the San Francisco Bay area and has branched out from there.

The Detroit area version took place in a parking lot outside the Henry Ford Museum in Dearborn, where more than 400 tinkers, hackers and inventors took part in what looked a little like a kid-friendly version of the Burning Man Festival. Here are a few of the baseball pitching robots, flame shooters and animatronics that were in evidence.
