The Army’s Future Combat System fires guided 120-mm shells to over-the-horizon distances, subjecting the guidance and control hardware in the shells to 10,000 g’s of shock. To make sure signals get through inside the shells despite the initial shock of firing, StripMount cabling from Cicoil, Valencia, Calif., goes into the wiring harness. The silcone-jacketed, high-flex flat cabling saves space. And the StripMount feature, a fiberglass-reinforced ribbon carrying the wires, gave design engineers the flexibility to attach the cabling to almost any secure surface with practically any fastener. The cables also withstand temperatures from –65 to 216°C.
