April 14, 2005
A prototype of the commercial Javelin jet, which looks and handles like a fighter, is nearly ready for its first flight.
Mock-up of the subsonic Javelin jet.
According to its developer, Aviation Technology Group (ATG), Englewood, Colo., the Javelin is a subsonic aircraft capable of flying at a max speed of .92 Mach (about 100 mph faster than a commercial airliner) with a ceiling of 45,000 ft. The prototype lets ATG evaluate performance, handling, and installed systems.
