Improving the Cars We Drive with Powder Metallurgy

July 8, 2017
MPIF announces the winners of its contest for innovative automotive powder metallurgy.

The winners from the 2017 Powder Metallurgy (PM) Design Excellence Awards Competition are in. The event is sponsored by the Metal Powder Industries Federation (MPIF). These parts demonstrate what is possible with PM by pushing forward new concepts and process controls.

Trends for using PM parts span multiple industries. This gallery features the automotive section of the contest, but the competition also features: automotive, aerospace, hand tool/recreation, hardware/appliances, medical/dental, and industrial motors. For the automotive industry, PM can be used for multiple parts, but you’ll notice a trend of planetary carriers and sprockets.
