The cantilevered axis available on the DLS3C Driven Linear System from Bishop-Wisecarver Corp., Pittsburg, Calif. (bwc.com), is particularly useful for Z-axis motion. Even with the standard lightweight aluminum beam, it gives rigid support for cantilevered loads with minimum inertia. Carriages and beams can be cut to suit an application.

The unit can use the same acgeared motor as the company’s standard linear drive or a worm gearbox can be ordered without a motor and coupled directly to the customer’s drive or planetary gearbox. Planetary boxes from the company have ratios from 4:1 to 20:1 and work best with servomotors. Mounting plate on the carriage and beam can be removed easily and machined to customer requirements.
