Any factory space around a conveyor is premium real estate, because like a highway artery, the component facilitates transport, assembly, sorting, inspection, and other plant-on-product interaction. However, concessions have to be made for older conveyor drive designs, which take up precious room. Now a new system from Dorner Mfg. Corp., Hartland, Wis., integrates all drives (including motor, gearbox, and motor controller) right into the conveyor platform — for a product transport system more compact than any previous designs.

Based on the company's 2200 Series conveyor, the motion system is available in widths as narrow as three inches and lengths to 12 ft. The variable-speed system is also reversible for maximum application flexibility. Finally, the drive roller diameter is just 1.25 in., which makes for smooth product transfers and maintains system compactness.
