Reell Clutches: High Torque Capacity in a Compact Size

Nov. 2, 2015
Reell clutches use wrap-spring technology to transmit a large amount of torque in a small size.

The exploded product view shows the salient internal components of all Reell catalog clutches. The seven standard models vary in size and torque capacity, but maintain the same basic design. The smallest, the EC15, weighs 83 grams and is rated for 1 million actuations at 1.7 N-m of total load. The largest, the EC75, weighs 271 grams and is rated for 1 million actuations at 8.5 N-m of total load.

All Reell clutches will exceed the 1-million-cycle life if used at less than the full rated load. Standard Reell clutches are rated for 20-30 million bearing revolutions, while the Long Life (LL) series clutches are rated for up to 80 million bearing revolutions. Due to the clutches being positive engagement devices, spring rate is not applicable. Once engaged (which happens very quickly), there is no further motion of the spring.
