Fast charging for electric vehicles

A new system for charging batteries of electric vehicles is said to be nearly as fast as traditional refueling at a gas station.
Jonathan Starkey, a research student at Leicester University, developed a system that lets electric-vehicle owners charge quickly.

A research student at Leicester University in central England developed the scheme, which charges lead-acid batteries with a stream of high-current pulses. Pulse size varies according to the charge level of the battery, and the technique doesn't shorten battery life. This charging system may play a part in development of electric vehicles with an acceptable range for city use, low running costs, and fast recharging.
