Fiber-to-wire converter

Sept. 13, 2007
The Model 4149 high-speed fiber-to-RS485/422/232 interface converter from Electro Standards Laboratories, Cranston, R.I., runs at speeds of 1.5 Mbps for RS232-to-fiber and 20 Mbps for RS485/422-to-copper.

The ruggedized converter works at temperatures from –40 to +85°C and incorporates protection circuitry on all receivers and transmitters for both RS232 and RS485/422 interfaces. Power input is protected from transients and features 3-kVdc isolation to prevent system ground loops. The units run on a variety of voltages including 9 to 36, 4.5 to 9, and 18 to 72 Vdc.

Other features include user-selectable fiber polarity, dual DB9 power connectors (board only) for convenience in bussed power applications, TX, RX, and Power indicator LEDs. The converter is available as a board only with threaded brackets for rack mounting in embedded applications. This unit also comes in a desktop package with DIN-rail mounting hardware for applications needing an enclosure.
