Single Board: Multiple I/O functions
But the EPX-C3 SBC from WinSystems Inc., Arlington, Tex., supports nine different I/O functions, including 10/100 Ethernet, USB 2.0, COM, parallel I/O, 4x AGP Video with CRT, flat-panel and LVDS interfaces, a keyboard controller, PS/2 mouse, LPT, and AC 97 audio. Stacking modules on the PC/104 and PC/104-Plus connectors further expands I/O. Over 1,000 different PC/104 modules are available.
The EPX-C3 is based on the 733-MHz VIA (Taipei, Taiwan) fanless Eden ESP7000 processor which itself uses x86 architecture with an x86 native instruction set and integrated L1/L2 cache. It runs Windows CE, Windows XP, Linux, and other x86-compatible operating systems such as VxWorks and QNX.
The EPX-C3 supports conventional and solidstate disk drives, two floppy-disk drives, and two UltraDMA 33/66/100 IDE drives. Also included are 256 Mbytes of SDRAM and sockets for bootable Type I and II Compact Flash cards and M-Systems' DiskOnChip. The board runs on 5 Vdc, draws 3.1 A, and operates at temperatures from -40 to 85°C. It measures 115 165 mm and is compatible with the new Embedded Platform for Industrial Computing (EPIC) standard. Applications for the EPX-C3 include robotics, COTS/military, transportation, pipeline, and machine control.
