The connectors from the Electronic Components & Materials div. of Osram Sylvania, York, Pa. (sylvania.com), work with antennas for automotive radios, cell phones, and telematic systems such as keyless remote entry, global positioning, and tire-pressure monitoring.
The connector body is a 43% glass-reinforced nylon 6/6 called Zytel 70G43L from DuPont Engineering Polymers, Wilmington Del. (plastics.dupont.com). The nylon gives the connectors strength, stiffness, and toughness. It molds to precision tolerances of ±0.0005 in. (±0.013 mm) and is considered to have good mold-release properties.
A key component of the NuChannel connector is an internal insulator for its signal conductor. It is molded from Zytel 408, an unreinforced nylon 6/6 grade. The material's low dielectric constant at high frequency is crucial to minimize signal loss. It's also report-edly easier to mold and less costly than competitive fluoropolymers.
