Sustainability, green Operations a Theme in Earthmover, Fluid-Power confabs

Feb. 21, 2008
You can find out what’s going on in recycling asphalt as well as get the latest scoop on running sustainable building projects at the upcoming Conexpo-Con/Agg 2008 and the colocated IFPE International Exposition for

Power Transmission, on March 11 to 15 at the Las Vegas Convention Center. And for some light entertainment, check out the first-ever Concrete Mixer Driver World Cup race.

Held every three years, the expo showcases the latest in construction equipment, fluid power, and power transmission. The combined show features more than 2,000 exhibitors in nearly 2.3 million sq ft of exhibits.

Many of the green-themed presentations take place in a new Innovation and Solutions Center that is part of the IFPE show. Here you can get the lowdown on design applications and research at the Center for Compact and Efficient Fluid Power. Among the green topics there are hydraulic hybrids, renewable energy, Tier-4 emission standards, and environmentally friendly fluids. Other topics include innovative applications in the entertainment industry (including a “backstage” look at the Cirque du Soleil “KA” show), and electrohydraulics and motion control in mobile equipment.

The Information Technology Management Pavilion will provide a comprehensive look at the latest industry-specific computer software, hardware, and peripherals. These include CAD, construction surveying, e-commerce and project management, as well as telecommunications equipment.

The Conexpo-Con/Agg education program will offer more than 120 sessions focusing on applied technology, industry trends, case studies, and “how-to” application strategies. Topics include GPS for construction, wireless and Ethernet communications, energy-saving techniques, an intro to biofuels, and bendable concrete.

IFPE 2008 will feature more than 400 exhibitors of fluid-power components and systems. It is intended for professionals in all segments of power transmission and control, including construction equipment, on and off-highway vehicles, mining and logging machinery, amusement equipment, and factory automation. It will also showcase motion-control products, with pavilions devoted to gears, power-transmission, and sensors.

IFPE 2008 technical conferences will include a record 111 presentations on the latest research and developments from industry and academic experts. Sessions geared toward engineers in design and manufacturing will cover issues such as modeling and simulation, energy recovery and reuse, GPS autoguidance steering, and hydraulic-hybrid systems for vehicles. It will also include a new electronic controls symposium. Presentations will be published and available at the conference.
